Educating against bad policies that sound good

E

There is a chasm between what sounds good and what is good; or what sounds like it will deliver great results and what actually delivers great results. Politicians will try and sell you something that sounds good; and I hope to give you the way of thinking so you can see if it actually does good too.

I am what is considered a Classical Liberal as opposed to an Egalitarian; a position I have taken because not only does it best promote human flourishing, but it also does a better job of empowering and supporting the genuinely needy. In this way, I am pro market. Or, to use a ‘dirty’ word, I am a capitalist.

There is a gap in the political landscape for people like me and perhaps you too: those that are pro-market and pro-environment. I call them Green Capitalists.

This site is dedicated to quickly and simply explain economic fundamentals without the in-depth technicalities. Some will say the devil is in the detail while I say people can’t see the forest through the trees.

Most people are unfamiliar with what it means to be a Classical Liberal. Both the Liberal Party of Australia and The Australian Labour Party are now egalitarian and both are leading us on the road to serfdom. It is time to reverse this trend.

It is my hope that many of you reading this blog discover that you are in fact a Classical Liberal and were not aware of it. And for the Egalitarians, I hope not to convert you to Classical Liberalism, however provide you a perspective on how we are similar in many ways, in where our public policy preferences differ, and hopefully getting you to rethink some public policy that you desire as I think you will see in some instances it will have the opposite effect of your intentions, and will hurt those you intend to help.

“The curious task of economics is to demonstrate to men how little they really know about what they imagine they can design.”

About the author

The Green Capitalist

Trained in economics, worked as a strategy consultant and now a business owner, The Green Capitalist is concerned by the trend away from personal responsibility and towards increasing government intervention. This trend will harm the genuinely needy in the long term and creates unnecessary restrictions on individual freedom.
